# safety

> Cut power to Axol, switch it back on, restart its motors, or check the E-Stop.

On a Jelly with a safety board, these commands work like the E-Stop and the green on-switch. See [Software E-Stop](https://docs.almond.bot/hardware-setup/jelly.md#software-e-stop).

```bash theme={null}
axol safety.status            # the E-Stop, power, and battery voltage
axol safety.status --watch    # keep printing until Ctrl-C
axol safety.stop              # cut power to Axol, like the E-Stop
axol safety.start             # switch power back on, like the green on-switch
axol safety.power-cycle       # switch power off and back on to restart the motors
```

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `safety.status` | Prints whether power is on, the E-Stop is pressed, or a software stop is in force. It also prints the battery and output voltage and any fault. |
| `safety.stop` | Cuts power to Axol and waits for the safety board to confirm. The arms drop. Power stays off until a start. |
| `safety.start` | Switches power back on. It fails with the reason when the E-Stop is pressed, the battery is low, or power does not come on. |
| `safety.power-cycle` | Switches power off for a few seconds, then back on. This restarts every motor on Axol, which clears motor faults. The arms drop while power is off. It refuses to start when the E-Stop is pressed or the battery is low. |

`--channel` picks the CAN interface. By default the commands use the lift's bus: `can_alm_axol_c` when it exists, otherwise `can_alm_axol_b`.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If `safety.stop` reports that the stop was not confirmed, press the E-Stop.
